... I was able to get it back, and it's kind of fitting that you did, since it seems to lock-step with what I was thinking...
"There was a Chinese belief that demons liked to travel only in straight lines. Hence the bridge zigzagged no fewer than nine times as it made its way to the center of the pond. The bridge was a demon filter, in other words, and the teahouse demon-free, which seemed of only limited usefulness if it still hosted people like Dr. X. But for Jude Fang, raised in a city of long straight avenues, full of straight talkers, it was useful to be reminded that from the point of view of some people, inlcuding Dr. X, all of that straightness was suggestive of demonism; more natural and human was the ever turning way, where you could never see round the next corner, and the overall plan could be understood only after lengthy meditation."
Neal Stephenson - The Diamond Age or A young Lady's Illustrated Primer, pg 127
I've never been able to finish this book, yet this paragraph stands out.
Legends in China and Japan say that demons only travel in straight lines--this is why, curves, soft edges and meandering lines should be encouraged. Incidentally, demons cannot jump either and this, symbolically, is why front doors and porch/hall areas should always be at least one step up into the house.
Recently, in the bigger picture I've been seeing, this makes far too much sense.

Reverend Horton Heat Someone In Heaven
someone that know just the right thing to say
you lived a full life, you fought the good fight
theres someone in heaven to talk with tonight
he'll look the same then will so will
just as you did when your marriage was new
you'll roll over laughing bout a silly ol fight
theres someone in heaven to talk with tonight
you've got someone in heaven to talk with today
someone who knows just the right thing to say
so walk up the stairs to his bright shining light
theres someone in heaven to talk with tonight
you used to hold hands and ride round the park
stop by the school yard were maybe you'd spark
so take up the wire sing us a song
we'll be there someday and we'll sing along
you've got someone in heaven to talk with today
someone who knows just the right thing to say
so walk up the stairs to his bright shining light
theres someone in heaven to talk with tonight
Jack Daniels, if you please
Knock me to my knees
You the only friend
That has ever has been
That didn't do me wrong
Jack Daniels, if you please
Knock me to my knees
You can kill this pain
Thats driving me insane
Since my babies gone
Cigarettes and whiskey
Call my shaking hand
I just lost a lover
To a one night stand
Something temporary
Too late I had learned
Someone from the past
Said it couldnt last
A bridge she could burn
Jack Daniels, if you please
Knock me to my knees
You the only friend
That has ever has been
That didn't do me wrong
Jack Daniels, if you please
Knock me to my knees
You can kill this pain
Thats driving me insane
Since my babies gone
Promises were broken
Dreams were left to die
Empty words were spoken
Tears were in our eyes
Something temporary
Those tears will fade away
Do the best you can
Help me understand
These games that people play
Jack Daniels, if you please
Knock me to my knees
You the only friend
That has ever has been
That didn't do me wrong
Jack Daniels, if you please
Knock me to my knees
You can kill this pain
Thats driving me insane
Since my babies gone
You can kill this pain
Thats driving me insane
Since my babies gone
THE OLD MAN WAS COVERED WITH TATTOOS AND SCARS
HE GOT SOME IN PRISON AND OTHERS IN BARS
THE REST HE GOT WORKING' ON OLD JUNK CARS
IN THE DAYTIME
THEY LOOKED LIKE TOMBSTONES IN OUR YARD
AND I NEVER SEEN HIM WHEN HE WASN'T TIRED AND MEAN
HE SOLD USED PARTS TO MAKE ENDS MEET
COVERED WITH GREASE FROM HIS HEAD TO HIS FEET
CUSSING' THE SWEAT AND THE TEXAS HEAT
AND MESQUITES
AND THE NEIGHBORS SAID WE LIVED LIKE HICKS
BUT THEY BRUNG THEIR CARS FOR PA TO FIX ANYHOW
HE WAS VETERAN-PROUD, TRIED AND TRUE
HE'D FOUGHT TILL HIS HEART WAS BLACK AND BLUE
DIDN'T KNOW HOW HE'D MADE IT THROUGH THE HARD TIMES
HE BOUGHT OUR HOUSE ON THE G.I. BILL
BUT IT WASN'T WORTH ALL HE HAD TO KILL TO GET IT
HE DRANK PEARL IN A CAN AND JACK DANIELS BLACK
CHEWED TOBACCO FROM A MAIL POUCH SACK
HAD AN OLD DOG THAT WAS TRAINED TO ATTACK
SOMETIMES
HE'D GET DRUNK AND MEAN AS A RATTLESNAKE
AND THERE WASN'T TOO MUCH
THAT HE WOULD TAKE FROM A STRANGER
THERE WERE THIRTEEN KIDS AND A BUNCH OF DOGS
A HOUSE FULL OF CHICKENS AND A YARD FULL OF HOGS
I SPENT THE SUMMERTIME CUTTING' UP LOGS FOR THE WINTER
TRYING' LIKE THE DEVIL TO FIND THE LORD
WORKING' LIKE A NIGGER FOR MY ROOM AND BOARD
COAL-BURIN' STOVE, NO NATURAL GAS
IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY, I'LL KISS YOUR ASS
IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY,
IT'LL HAIR LIP THE POPE
IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY, IT'S A DAMN GOOD JOKE
I'VE SEEN THE GRAND OLE OPRY,
AND I'VE MET JOHNNY CASH
IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY, I'LL KISS YOUR ASS
RECITATION:
MAMA SELLS EGGS AT A GROCERY STORE
MY OLDEST SISTER IS A FIRST-RATE WHORE
DAD SAYS SHE CAN'T COME HOME ANYMORE
AND HE MEANS IT
MA JUST SITS AND KEEPS HER SILENCE
SISTER, SHE LEFT 'CAUSE DAD GOT VIOLENT
AND HE KNOWS IT
MAMA SHE'S OLD FAR BEYOND HER TIME
FROM CHOPPING TOBACCO AND I'VE SEEN HER CRYING'
WHEN BLOOD STARTED FLOWING' FROM HER CALLOUSED HAND AND
IT HURT ME
SHE'D JUST KEEP WORKING' TRYING' TO HELP THE OLD MAN
TO THE END OF ONE ROW AND BACK AGAIN LIKE ALWAYS
SHE'S BEEN THROUGH HELL SINCE JUNIOR WENT TO JAIL
WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT SHE AIN'T NEVER FAILED
TO GET DOWN ON HER KNEES AND PRAY
BECAUSE SHE LOVES HIM
TOLD ALL THE NEIGHBORS HE WAS OFF IN THE WAR
FIGHTING' FOR FREEDOM,
HE'S GOOD TO THE CORE AND SHE'S PROUD
NOW OUR PLACE WAS A GRAVEYARD FOR AUTOMOBILES
AT THE END OF THE PORCH THERE WAS FOUR STACKS OF WHEELS
AND TIRES FOR SALE FOR A DOLLAR OR TWO
CASH
THERE WAS FIFTY HOLES IN AN OLD TIN ROOF
ME AND MY FAMILY WE WAS LIVING' PROOF
THE PEOPLE WHO FORGOT ABOUT POOR WHITE TRASH
AND IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY, I'LL KISS YOUR ASS
IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY, IT'LL HAIR LIP THE POPE
IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY, IT'S A DAMN GOOD JOKE
I'VE SEEN THE GRAND OLE OPRY,
AND I'VE MET JOHNNY CASH
IF THAT AIN'T COUNTRY, I'LL KISS YOUR ASS
I'M THINKING TONIGHT OF MY BLUE EYES
CONCERNING THE GREAT SPECKLED BIRD
I DIDN'T KNOW GOD MADE HONKY-TONK ANGELS
AND WENT BACK TO THE WILD SIDE OF LIFE
I dare you, to be real
To touch a flickering flame
The pangs of dark delight
Dont cower in night fright
Dont back away just yet
From destinations set
I dare you to be proud
To dare to shout aloud
For convictions that you feel
Like sound from bells to peal
I dare you to speak of your despise
For bureaucracy, hypocracy- all liars
I dare
I dare
I dare- you- you
So, in my quest to cut down on the amout I smoke, the past couple of days I've gone back up, instead of levelling off/getting lower.
While this is a step in the wrong direction, I don't consider it a failure, since I recognise the setback, and will work harder to correct it.
In other news, while D2 is becoming more fun as I learn to play it more, it's not as much fun without my snugglemuffykinlicious.
While I tried to speak about some fears and worries, it was pointed out I was sounding "a bit needy", I don't quite agree with that assessment, however I can see their point of view, and understand. This gives me something else to add to my 'to-do' list, thank you once again.
And I shall leave you this day with the following:
